ARCIGAY – Associazione LGBTQIA+ Italiana
Networking Outreach, Scaling Up a Comprehensive HIV/STI Response: A Strategic, Community-Based, Peer-Led and Advocacy-Oriented Initiative to Deal with MSM/LGBTQIA+ Sexual Health Needs in 20 Cities
ARCIGAY is an Italian LGBTQIA+ not-for-profit organization — the largest in terms of number of volunteers and activists throughout Italy. Formally, it is an association for social promotion (ASP) registered into the relative national register with number 115 (Law 383/2000). The program aims to scale up ARCIGAY’s national HIV/STI prevention and sexual health awareness efforts among men who have sex with men and the LGBTQIA+ community across 20 Italian cities. This expansion is based on four pillars: 1) increasing community information and awareness; 2) increasing community-based testing; 3) increasing public health service accessibility; and 4) reducing HIV stigma. Activities to achieve these goals include national networking, peer education training, online and offline outreach, sexual health institutional advocacy and HIV/syphilis counseling and testing.
